Mark Teixeira Took Kurt Cobain’s Death Really Hard

How hard, exactly? After Cobain killed himself when Teixeira was in the eighth grade, the Yankees first baseman began going by the alias "Kurt Teixeira." Thanks to the MLB Network — which last night aired an interview with Teixeira interspersed with clips of his mom recalling his childhood — the world now knows that the boy who would go on to choose Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock" as his at-bat music was so broken up by the Nirvana front man's death that he adopted the name Kurt when filling out forms to have comic books and CDs mailed to his house. Said Tex: "[W]hen you're 12 or 13 years old and your favorite band isn't gonna make any more music, you take it pretty tough." [Big League Stew/Yahoo via Walkoff Walk]
