MLB Owners Will Remain As Dull As Ever

Sadly, the next owner of the Texas Rangers will not be Mark Cuban. Shortly after midnight last night, an auction court awarded the Rangers to Nolan Ryan’s group, which is good, except they’re probably all completely broke now, which is bad. We have been on record as saying the brash (and smart) Cuban would never be allowed in MLB’s ownership fraternity, but the reason he didn’t get the Rangers seems to be a matter of simple outbidding. The Ryan group hit a number that Cuban just couldn’t match. It is a shame: The Rangers, and MLB, and fans, would all be a lot better off had Cuban bought the team; those owners need a shakeup, bad. Particularly now that Ryan’s crew spent most of their money to secure the team. Amazingly, the best owner the Rangers have ever had is probably George W. Bush.
