The Week the New Meadowlands Stadium Hosted Football

The Jets hosted the Giants in the first-ever football game at New Meadowlands Stadium on Monday, and though the game itself didn’t mean anything, it gave us plenty to talk about this week. Eli Manning lost his helmet and gained twelve stitches, and between his inability to put on a helmet and Jim Sorgi’s injured ribs, Rhett Bomar will start the Giants preseason home opener tomorrow night. Meanwhile, Victor Cruz made a name for himself against the Jets’ reserves, giving Rex Ryan something talk about during this week’s episode of Hard Knocks. But what happened this week that didn’t involve large amounts of green lighting?

The Yankees couldn’t buy a run, but then they won three straight.

The Mets played games; Francisco Rodriguez did not.

We looked at whether the Knicks could trade for Carmelo Anthony.

Roger Clemens was indicted on perjury charges.

Amar’e Stoudemire told us that Isiah Thomas didn’t recruit him at all.

We argued that Tiger Woods was finished.

We looked at the Baseball Blums of Toms River.

And we visited FirstEnergy Park, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

That’s it for us. Have a nice weekend.
