Spain and Greece, considered the teams with the best chance besides the U.S. to bring home world basketball championship gold, both lost round-robin games today. Greece fell to tournament host Turkey despite an off game from star Hedo Turkoglu; the Bucks' Ersan Ilyasova picked up the slack. Spain was dropped by Lithuania in what, from the box score, looks to have been a "meh" game for both teams. The proper conclusion to draw here probably isn't that Spain and Greece aren't any good—given the U.S.'s narrow escape over Brazil yesterday, what seems more likely is that it's just been shown that Turkey and Lithuania could also beat the U.S.
