R.A. Dickey, Still Impressive

Dickey lost his shutout in the ninth, but still: Five hits and one run over nine innings is pretty great, even against the Pirates. It's Dickey's second complete game of the year — his 127 pitches were the most thrown by a Met this season — and since May 25, the date of Dickey's first win of the year, only Adam Wainwright and Roy Halladay have more victories among N.L. pitchers. Carlos Beltran drove in three runs, and Ruben Tejada had his first three-hit game, leading to a curious quote from Jerry Manuel about Tejada's future with the team: "If you see significant improvement between now and the start of next season, we'll definitely have to consider him as a guy that has a chance to be a starter." The "we" in that sentence is either terrifying or delusional. Probably the latter, though.
