Jon Daniels and Nolan Ryan met with Cliff Lee in Arkansas this week, though Daniels wouldn’t comment on whether the team made Lee a formal offer, nor did he divulge any other details about their meeting. Ian Kinsler, however, did some recruiting of his own via text message and shared details of his discussion with the “Ben and Skin” radio show. Via ESPN Dallas:
“Basically, I said, ‘What’s going on in Arkansas?’ [Lee] said, ‘the Rangers are down here again,’” Kinsler said on the air. “I was like, ‘Well, just sign whatever they give you.’ He said, ‘Let’s see what happens. We have to wait it out.’
“I said, ‘Remember, I like being your teammate.’ And he said, ‘I do, too, but we have to wait it out.’ I said, ‘Just sign it.’ And then he sent me a picture of a deer [that a friend had bagged on his property].”
The Rangers reportedly are prepared to offer Lee a five-year contract. The Yankees, meanwhile, have reportedly not yet made a formal offer.
