The Guy Who Cashed In on Discarded OTB Slips Has a New Plan

You may recall reading last year about Jesus Leonardo, the man who says he’s earned $45,000 a year by collecting discarded betting slips at a Manhattan OTB, hoping bettors have inadvertently tossed away winners. But now that New York’s OTB parlors have ceased operation, the Times follows up with Leonardo and learns he’s devised a new plan: He now sends a team of six people to collect discarded slips from the tracks themselves — ones in New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia — and then he brings them to the tracks for scanning. In fact, he spoke to the paper via cell phone from Aqueduct, where he was presumably busy putting his new plan into action. [NYT]
