Yankees Sign What’s Left of Mark Prior to a Minor League Deal

Prior — who was actually drafted by the Yankees in 1998, before attending USC and eventually going second overall to the Cubs in the 2001 draft — hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2006 because of his latest injuries, and he most recently pitched (one inning) for the Rangers AAA affiliate following a stint last season with the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League. In any case, it's still a pretty low-risk move for the Yankees, who will reportedly pay Prior $750,000 if he makes the big-league club — his agent says Prior will go to spring training with hopes of winning a job as a reliever — with the possibility of another $750,000 in incentives.
