Zack Greinke Wasn’t Plan C

The Yankees had already missed out on Cliff Lee (i.e., off-season plan A) and Carl Crawford (plan B, even though the Red Sox snatched him up before plan A blew up in their faces). But they reportedly never truly thought Kansas City would trade Zack Greinke to the Bronx, and though they'd inquired about him earlier in the off-season, they never made an offer. (Or, maybe the Royals just wanted too much.) In any case, Greinke, like Lee, is the National League's problem now, following a trade to the Brewers. So that makes their big-ticket plan C ... a trade for Carlos Zambrano? [NYDN]
