Someone Listed B.J. Surhoff, But Not Roberto Alomar, on His Hall of Fame Ballot

ESPN today released the Baseball Hall of Fame ballots of eighteen of its employees that have a vote, and allow us to join the dog pile referenced here and present the five names on news editor Barry Stanton’s ballot: Jack Morris, Edgar Martinez, Tino Martinez, Don Mattingly, and B.J. Surhoff. Now, some of the names absent from his ballot: Roberto Alomar, Bert Blyleven, and Jeff Bagwell. Not that voting for someone with no chance of induction isn’t something of a Hall of Fame tradition — David Segui, Kevin Appier, and Eric Karros all received at least one vote last year — but that doesn’t really explain this particular ballot. (For the record, plenty of other voters will likely once again include Morris and Edgar Martinez on their ballots, as well, though that’s sort of beside the point.) Results of this year’s Hall of Fame balloting will be released tomorrow. [ESPN via Nate Silver/Twitter]
