Fox Sports: A-Rod Popcorn Shot Was Purely Random

Only A-Rod could appear on a television broadcast for four seconds and have those four seconds captured, re-tweeted, and reported on for two solid days. So here’s everything we’ve learned about the third baseman’s highly visible Super Bowl snack: The gossip page of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that after Fox cameras showed Cameron Diaz feeding him popcorn during the game, A-Rod “went ballistic — thinking the cameraman was out to get them in a paparazzi-like shot.” Neil Best, meanwhile, relays a statement from a Fox spokesperson explaining that celebrity shots like that one “are purely random.” And though the Sun-Times report said that A-Rod confronted Fox personnel because of the shot, the spokesperson said he wasn’t aware of Rodriguez expressing his displeasure with the network. So this is perhaps the last you’ll hear of the incident — until the season starts, that is, and opposing fans somehow incorporate popcorn into their growing repertoire of A-Rod-specific taunts.
