St. John’s — and senior guard Dwight Hardy, in particular — are on some kind of roll right now: Having already defeated Georgetown, Notre Dame, Duke, UConn, and Pittsburgh over the past two months, the Johnnies knocked off then-No. 14/15 Villanova on Saturday, their first win over a ranked opponent away from Madison Square Garden and their sixth-consecutive victory overall. (Hardy, who’s been making a habit lately of topping his career-best scoring game, did so again, dropping 34 on Villanova, who have now lost four of six and seven out of twelve following a 16–1 start to the season.) And today the polls rewarded the Red Storm for their incredible run: St. John’s has risen all the way to No. 15 in both polls, a week after being ranked 23rd by the AP and 25th by the coaches, and two weeks after being out of the top 25 entirely.
