Jason Bay Will Indeed Begin the Season on the Disabled List

It's official now: Bay, who injured his ribcage during batting practice on Tuesday, will open the season on the fifteen-day disabled list, retroactive to March 25. (We'll spare you from having to do that math: He's eligible to come off the DL on April 9.) Said Bay, perhaps a bit too dramatically even for someone who hasn't played in a regular-season game since July 25: "It was devastating at first," adding (more sensibly) that "the silver lining I guess is, knock on wood, it's not that bad and there will still be a full season ahead of me."
