Might the Osi Umenyiora Drama Be Winding Down?

When we last checked in with Osi Umenyiora, he was reportedly angry at the Giants for telling his agent he could no longer seek a trade, and someone close to the defensive end was telling The Wall Street Journal that Umenyiora's next move could be telling Jerry Reese that he was undergoing knee surgery and would miss the season. So consider this latest bit of news an encouraging sign: He's headed to Atlanta to get a second opinion on his knee, and according to a Daily News report, if he gets a clean bill of health, he might rejoin his teammates on the field next week, even without a new contract. And their source here isn't an anonymous friend of his third cousin's babysitter; their source is Umenyiora's agent. Umenyiora, of course, wants a re-worked contract, one that he says Reese promised him two years ago. But since his one-day holdout at the start of camp, he's refused to practice, claiming he has a knee injury. (The Giants believe it's something he can play through.) That said, the "closure" that Tom Coughlin seeks on this mess is on hold for at least a little bit longer: Umenyiora likely won't see the doctor until tomorrow.
