Osi Umenyiora Is Even Angrier at the Giants Now

So here's where we're at now with the Osi Umenyiora drama: Yesterday, the Giants told his agent that he could no longer seek a trade for his client, and after meeting with Jerry Reese, Umenyiora was reportedly told he could take the rest of the day off to clear his head. (He actually stuck around and rode a stationary bike while watching practice.) He's still not actually practicing himself, of course, and according to a source who spoke to Ralph Vacciano, he was fuming that the Giants told his agent he no longer had permission to seek a trade. (Vacciano writes that "he is even angrier than he was when this whole mess started.") Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal drops this tidbit: "Umenyiora now has the next move, and a person close to him said it very likely could be telling Reese he'll undergo knee surgery to repair a meniscus injury and sit out the season." (The paper, again citing that person close to him, says that the injury doesn't require immediate surgery and that he could play on it.) If Umenyiora, who is seeking the reworked contract he says he was promised, is looking to win the PR battle in this soap opera, threats like that, if true, aren't going to help. [NYDN, WSJ]
