For a while last year, it appeared inevitable that Brandon Jacobs and the Giants would part ways following the 2011-12 season. (After all, Jacobs had said he didn't see himself with the team next year.) Then, last month, Jacobs said in an interview on SiriusXM Radio that he fully expected to be back with the team next season. But the Star-Ledger reports that the two sides couldn't come to an agreement on the reduction of his 2012 salary, and that the Giants will release Jacobs today. (Jacobs was set to earn $4.4 million in salary in 2012, in addition to a roster bonus of $500,000 due later this month.) Jacobs's 56 rushing touchdowns are the most ever for a Giant, while his 4,849 rushing yards are fourth on franchise's all-time list.
