2012 stanley cup playoffs

The Stanley Cup Playoffs Get the Taiwanese Animation Treatment

These have been some eventful Stanley Cup Playoffs so far: The Penguins falling behind 3-0 to the Flyers before winning Game 4 in their goaltending-optional series, the Coyotes and Blackhawks opening their series with four consecutive overtime games, the Canucks dropping the first three games in their series to the eighth-seeded Kings before winning the fourth, and so on. But they've also been the playoffs of vicious cross-checks, dangerous elbows, and guys getting their heads slammed into the glass. It's incidents like those that prompted the Next Media Animation folks to explore the following question: "Is the NHL too violent?" After watching the video, we'll say this much: As ugly as animated Raffi Torres's jet-rocket-powered hit on Marian Hossa was, animated Brendan Shanahan's decision to cut a hole in the ice and let Torres drown as a punishment seems excessive. (Oh, and though it happened before the playoffs began, the Rangers–Devils line brawl from earlier this season is in the video as well, at the one-minute mark.)
