St. John’s Baseball Reaches the NCAA Super Regionals

How long has it been since St. John's advanced past the regional round of the NCAA baseball tournament? John Franco — who last night was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame — was a member of their last team to do so. (As the Post points out, when they last got past the regional round, in 1980, there wasn't even such a thing as a Super Regional.) In any case, last night, the Red Storm eliminated North Carolina, the No. 1 seed in its region, with a 9-5 victory. St. John's went 3-0 in the double-elimination regional round and advances now to play Arizona in a best-of-three series for the right to be one of the eight teams to advance to Omaha. St. John's, by the way, isn't the only team from the area still playing: Stony Brook plays UCF tonight (at Alex Rodriguez Park in Coral Gables), with a trip to the Super Regionals on the line.
