2012 mlb all-star game
Clearly, David Wright Needs an Adorable Nickname
David Wright is having an outstanding season: As of this afternoon, he's batting .354 (or two points behind the National League leader, Carlos Ruiz) and is third in the N.L. with an OPS of 1.006. But Wright will not be starting next week's All-Star game; thanks to a surge in voting by Giants fans, Pablo Sandoval will be the N.L.'s starting third baseman, despite having only played just 45 games through this weekend. (If you're curious, Bud Selig won't be investigating the results. "We have built in enough safeguards," he said.)
In any case, Sandy Alderson — who's been tragically silent on Twitter in recent months — has his third baseman's back. Via the GM's Twitter feed:
ASG election of "Kung Fu Panda" shows the value of a cute nickname. Surprised Giants fans didn't elect a "ball dude" to start at 3B.

Wright's lack of a cute nickname might have cost him here, but that just means there's plenty of time to get him one for next year. The "David 'Cuddle Bunny' Wright in '13" campaign starts now.
