WFAN turned 25 earlier this month, and today we direct your attention to Grantland's oral history that chronicles the country's first 24-hour local sports radio station from its rocky launch in 1987, to its turnaround following Don Imus's addition to the lineup, to the rise (and eventual breakup) of Mike and the Mad Dog. (There's plenty more, of course, including a nice section on Steve Somers, who's been with WFAN since its launch.) It's a long read, but it's worth your time.
