Alderson: We Will Not Forfeit Any Game, Promise!

NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 21: 'Mr. Met' performs during the game between the New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers at Citi Field on August 21, 2011 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. The Brewers defeated the Mets 6-2. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

The Mets made no trades yesterday, so the team that's four games under .500 and nine games out of the Wild Card race will remain intact. The mindset of general manager Sandy Alderson seems sound to us: He believes his team getting to .500 and being respectable to harbor good will with fans is more important than some "low-A prospect." He says the Mets haven't given up on the season — current playoff odds: 1 percent! — and that they will play out their schedule. That's good, because we suspect a couple of people, maybe even a few more than that, have already paid for their tickets.
