Bartolo Colon Suspended 50 Games After Testing Positive for Testosterone
Another former Yankee has been suspended for failing a drug test: Bartolo Colon, who exceeded expectations for the Yanks last season before hitting a wall late in the year, has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for testosterone. Colon, 39, had posted an ERA of 3.43 in 24 starts with the A's this season, throwing a steady diet of fastballs and relying on getting outs on balls put into play. He'd been pitching especially well recently, with an ERA of 1.57 in his last five outings. In a statement, Colon admitted responsibility and apologized to fans, his teammates, and the A's. Here's something else he has in common with Melky Cabrera, by the way: His team is fighting for a playoff spot, and it just lost a key contributor for the remainder of the regular season and then some.
