How's this for a major league debut? Collin McHugh, the 25-year-old right-handed pitcher, blogger, and likable guy, tossed seven innings of two-hit, shutout ball today, striking out nine Rockies while walking just one. But despite that outstanding start, the Mets still lost. Five Rockies pitchers combined to shut out the Mets, and Colorado scored the lone run of the game off losing pitcher Bobby Parnell in the eighth inning on a triple that was misjudged by Jordany Valdespin and an RBI single that got by the drawn-in infield. According to Elias, via ESPN, McHugh became the first pitcher since 1900 to throw at least seven innings with no runs and at least nine strikeouts in his debut and not earn the win.
