Roger Clemens Signs With Minor-League Team

KANSAS CITY, MO - JULY 23: Roger Clemens #22 of the New York Yankees lines up the pitch during the game against the Kansas City Royals on July 23, 2007 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The Yankees defeated the Royals 9-2. (Photo by: G. Newman Lowrance/Getty Images)

Clemens has signed a contract to pitch for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independant Atlantic League, and is expected to start for the team on Saturday against the Bridgeport Bluefish. (According to Clemens's agent Randy Hendricks, it's "a one game at a time thing." Said Hendricks: "Let's see how he does on Saturday.") We'll spare you the joke about Suzyn Waldman losing her mind somewhere upon hearing the news, and instead ask a simple question: Why does a team in Sugar Land, Texas, play in the Atlantic League?
