It's a good thing we never played any professional or collegiate sports, even as a walk-on benchwarmer, because if we would have ever shown up in a video game, even once, even as the very last guy on the roster, we would never stop playing the game as ourselves. In this digital age, there's something lasting and immortal about being created in a video game. It is proof that we once walked this earth. Also, this paragraph is making us sad.
So you can imagine how frustrated Giants defensive tackle Marcus Thomas must have been when he opened up his copy of Madden 2013 (which came out yesterday), flipped to his own player page and saw ... that they had a picture of the wrong Marcus Thomas. As one does when one is upset in the year 2012, he went to Twitter to vent. Some quotes!
*** "the creators of madden needs to b slapped for putting an imposter pic in place of me that's not me for the last time I don't look like that"
*** "I been in the nfl going on 6years and y'all still hav another mans face for my pic on madden i hate y'all hate is very strong but I do"
*** "Madden is disrespectful practice your craft and make it realistic I'm in newyork now help me please someone call madden and tell him lol"
*** "Man im angry now u right madden is very unprofessional"
*** "dear mr @EAMaddenNFL i com to you humbly sir. Can u please put the right photo of me on the madden it's been 6years not lol maybe a giggle"
We have to say: He handled that better than we would have. That would just crush us.
The story has a happy ending. EA Sports says they'll correct the mistake in this and future editions. If Thomas makes the team, anyway.
