Jets linebacker Bart Scott declared a media blackout earlier this season, and today, when Dan Leberfeld of Jets Confidential saw him having a conversation with Jane McManus of ESPN New York, he tried to take a photo to document — some might say mockingly — Scott's interaction with a reporter. (Scott, according to Greg Logan of Newsday, has "maintained a friendly byplay with some beat writers.") In a blog post today, Leberfeld said he wanted the photo for a story he's doing on Scott's media blackout. Indeed, he'd also taken a photo of Scott with a female reporter on Wednesday, reportedly causing her to cry. (Scott, according to Neil Best, cursed out Leberfeld after that incident.) In any case, Scott didn't like that Leberfeld was taking another photo today, and things got ugly.
According to various reports, Scott told Leberfeld to "get a life," and Leberfeld said the same to Scott. Scott yelled “I’ll smack the shit out of you” at Leberfeld, who responded by saying that he'd sue. Replied Scott, "I don't care!"
Bart Hubbich of the Post reported that Jets PR man Bruce Speight had to restrain Scott, and asked for help from PR aides to keep Scott away from Leberfeld.
