So far, the Barclays Center has hosted eight Jay-Z concerts, two Barbra Streisand shows, the Harlem Globetrotters, and The King's Men, "four of gospel music’s royalty." Tonight, though, the prime tenants finally show up to give their new digs a spin. The Brooklyn Nets are playing at Barclays tonight.
The Washington Wizards are the guests for the historic evening, which will probably not have all that many bells and whistles; exhibition games are just for the players to get warmed up, after all. From our experience — we went to the first games at Citi Field, Citizens Bank Park, and the Edward Jones Dome — the opening nights are usually not the best nights to judge an arena. Many of the concessions aren't open yet, and generally things are operating at a lower capacity. We dunno if this is the case at Barclays; we're just saying we'd understand if it were. Kinks always have to be worked out.
There is talk that the game is a sellout, but we just hopped on Ticketmaster and had no problem bringing up plenty of seats. On StubHub, there are tons of tickets for less than ten bucks. It is an exhibition game, after all. The Nets won their first game as the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night, beating Philadelphia in Atlantic City. Tonight, though, their big, pretty new building is theirs to play in and on. It's just a test run, but this is what this was all building toward. We'll be there hours before gametime taking notes on everything we see. The Nets and Barclays, tonight, are finally together.
