Madison Square Garden Will Host the 2014 NCAA East Regional

The Cincinnati Bearcats handle the ball against the Louisville Cardinals during the finals of the Big East Men's Basketball Tournament at Madison Square Garden at Madison Square Garden on March 10, 2012 in New York City.

So this is pretty cool: Madison Square Garden will host the East Regional of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. There'd been talk a while back about the arena getting it for the 2012-13 season, but a former NCAA executive said last spring that they wanted to give the Garden a chance to finish its renovation project before awarding it a Regional. It's not like the metropolitan area doesn't host these from time to time — it was held at the Prudential Center in Newark in 2011 — but the Garden hasn't hosted NCAA Tournament games in any round since 1961. That'll be a big couple of months for the area: The games take place on March 28 and 30, 2014, less than two months after MetLife Stadium hosts Super Bowl XLVIII.
