Iloire Blanos, Marc by Marc Jacobs
sales associate
By Karen Parr
I've spent many a dollar at the gum-ball machine at the
Marc by Marc Jacobs store on Bleecker Street.
Yes, the vending machine. You can get lots of cool little trinkets
there. I'd spend all my paycheck in the vending machine.
Oh, it's a problem. I buy everything. Have you gotten anything good from it?
I actually got some of the spring jewelrya necklace, and
then the charm bracelet, which was very exciting. Then I got
all the little heart marbles. What are you wearing?
This dress is vintage and so is my black necklace. And this
is a cleaned-up piece of amber. My shoes are Blay, from this
store Pepper that I used to work at. You can find them at Otto
Tootsie Ploughound. They do a lot of little pumps and kitten
heels. And your bag is Marc.
Yeah. It's from last fall, I think. Are you a huge Marc fan?
Yeah. We get to come to the shows, all the people who work for
Marc. But this is actually the first time I got to be inside,
which is awesome. The last time I had to watch it outside on
a screen. So is this a big deal for you?
Yeah! It's a big thing. Do you push lots of Marc on people? What is that called,
"upselling"?
You know, actually, you barely have to do that in our store.
Everybody who comes in loves the stuff, and most people who
come into the store are coming in to get Marc stuff. So you
basically just have to be helpful and accommodating. The clothes
kind of sell themselves. Where are your favorite places to shop in the city?
Screaming Mimi's and Stella Dallas for vintage. In Soho, Ana
Sui, A.P.C., and Agent Provocateur [laughs]. I just went on
a whole splurge there. Every time I go in there I want everything.
Have you been to Bendel's Agent Provocateur store?
Yes. It's beautiful.
