So your vest is from the fall 2005 collection?
It's shearling. We do pink for everything, except for fall it has to be a little bit darker so we're doing plum, mauve, and lilac.
Your necklace. What is it?
It's a gold peso. I'm from Arizona, and my family has a lot of Mexican heritage, so this belonged to my great-grandmother. I'm wearing it for good luck. I've always loved gold. Everyone in my family wears it; my dad's wedding band is gold. I think it's kind of traditional, old-America.
Where did you get your bracelet?
Venice. Just a little jeweler.
And your top?
I don't know—I've had it forever. It's just a nice wool jersey so it's really warm. I wanted to wear something functional today so I wore our ballet flats and a vintage belt. I can't be in high heels running around [backstage].
Do you only wear your shoes?
I have one of every shoe we've ever made, so I haven't really bought anyone except for sneakers and...Uggs. I have to say, I wear Uggs. Lately in the snow I've had to wear them, so whatever. And we'll never make an Ugg, so fine! And Nikes.
Where do you shop?
I live in Italy 9 months out of the year. I was shopping there all of the time, but now that the Euro is so strong and the dollar sucks, I'm shopping more in America. But I do a lot of vintage shopping, and in America, vintage shopping is so much better than anywhere else. I go to the cheaper shops in the East Village. I'll go to Screaming Mimi's. I go to the Chelsea Flea Market a lot. I just found a necklace that I loved and wanted to use in my fashion show, but it was $1,400, so I didn't buy it.
What do you express through your clothing?
I love color, so always color and always feminine, but always really sexy. So I like the clothes to be a little on the slutty side. Which you can see with the [models'] hair and makeup. I told them, "If they look like hookers, it's fine!"
What will you be wearing tomorrow, Saturday, when this is all over?
Well, Saturday I'll probably be in bed all day. But Sunday I have a luncheon, so I'll be wearing a metallic, fur-trimmed trench coat from the collection.
