Gn's opulent designs boast luxurious fabrics and exquisite handiwork more readily associated with haute couture. The Singapore-born, Paris-based designer develops his embroideries in-house and creates his own buttons and embellishments, which is good news for the “bourgeois princesses” who look to him for one-of-a-kind event-dressing. Artisanal details in the form of bows, mink trim, and beading keep the royals and socials coming back for more. Gn enjoys close friendships with many of his well-heeled clients, and claims to generate 20 percent of his business through trunk sales and personal appearances.
“I'm not the type of designer who makes things that need to be explained in order to sell. I make clothes that when a woman comes into the store and sees them she says to herself, 'I've got to have it.'”—Andrew Gn Women's Wear Daily
“If you don't get Andrew Gn's type of ritzy glamour, you probably live on the wrong side of the tracks anyway. After all, his kind of girl has no qualms about ultra-luxurious embellishment, nor does she cringe at the price of his opulent fabrics (12-ply cashmere, anyone?).”—Women's Wear Daily Staff Women's Wear Daily
“What I'm doing isn't trendy. I'm like an ostrich. I do what I like and I follow my own way of doing things. That means that my product is very individualistic. A woman won't go to a party and see five other women wearing their dress. It's very exclusive.”—Andrew Gn Women's Wear Daily
