In 2005, Ashish Soni was the first Indian designer invited to show at New York Fashion Week. The collections tend toward neutral colors, luxe fabrics, and reinvented Eastern details and draping.
“At my shows I don't allow anyone to overshadow the collection…. In black-and-white titles, clothes were given importance. The time has come once again for fashion designers to play an important role in the film industry. Wardrobes make characters. We are experimenting now more than ever before…. I want to do something that will look good on my resume. When I take up a film-based project, my clothes must drive the story, make the characters.”—Ashish N Soni The Statesman (India)
“Personally, I believe, unless a collection has mass appeal, it's not fashion.”—Ashish N Soni The Statesman (India)
“The evening's first show was by Ashish Soni and from him fashionistas always expect a new dimension. Soni didn't let them down. Soni played his forte—with drapes, folds and tucks beatifying the ensembles.”—Staff Hindustan Times
