Scott Sternberg launched Band of Outsiders in 2004, designing recontextualized vintage-inspired looks with hand-sewn seams and shrunken proportions. The brand’s overall look is one of sharply cut dress shirts and slim-fitting, tailored suits and knits with a boyish appeal. Though increasingly popular in the States, the label’s biggest market is Tokyo. Former Fashion File host Tim Blanks notes of Sternberg: “He's a little like Junya Watanabe, able to train a detached eye on the familiar and find the exotic in the mundane.”
