The ladylike label’s been quietly amassing big-name supporters (Anna Wintour, Barneys’ Julie Gilhart) since its launch in 2001. More demure than diva, the line eschews the super-trendy in favor of A-lines, bows, nipped-in waists, and understated bits of floral and lace. Sarafpour, who cut her teeth alongside giants like Isaac and Narciso, is the only designer to have shown a collection inside the fabled Tiffany & Company flagship. Other coups include a spring ’08 capsule collection of organic and ecofriendly looks, and Behnaz Red, Lancôme’s universally flattering lipstick shade, which sold out before it even hit stores.
“New York girls want to look fabulous as if by accident, and Behnaz makes it easy with her designs and simple silhouettes.”—Trish Adams New York Daily News
“Behnaz is a very, very intelligent and thoughtful woman and it comes through in her approach to fashion. Only Behnaz can get away with turning a vintage tablecloth into a skirt as she did in her 2003 collection. It was great.”—Virginia Smith The Philadelphia Inquirer
