After almost ten years of living and working together, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra debuted their line in New York for the spring 2005 collections. The label scored rave reviews all around, winning the 2005 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award and two consecutive bids as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist (2005, 2006). Their collections of smartly tailored dresses, well-constructed jackets, and coats in muted tones pay special attention to detail, both inside and out, with a focus on the draping of fabric that’s finished with bound edges and French seams.
“Their relative anonymity is even more startling given that their pieces—exquisitely languid, small miracles of draping and folding—flatter nearly every body type. The dresses are a bit of a contradiction; their complicated infrastructure accounts for their astounding fluidity, and they are as comfortable as they are glamorous.”—Maureen Callahan The New York Post
“Robert and Jeffrey have done movies and music videos; they've done concerts. But it wasn't until 2003 that Costello Tagliapietra was launched as a fashion line proper. The line tends more toward draped, Grecian jersey dresses in the tradition of Madame Gres, with couture touches like zippers with lace edging, interior belts, and seams with inserts of silk organza.”—Florence Kane Vogue
