With Wyclef Jean, Kamie Crawford, and Miss J Alexander.
Started by brothers Custo and David Dalmau in 1981, Custo Barcelona was born on a motorcycle trip across America. Inspired by the lax attitude of southern California, the pair returned to their native Barcelona and started a business crafting T-shirts for men and women with screen-prints and illustrations. Now the brand extends to everything from suits to swimwear, and it’s still the colors and prints that keep bringing customers back. The look is bold, bright, and psychedelic, and has a particularly high appeal in international markets—they account for almost 85 percent of all company sales.
“First it was Hollywood, with the likes of Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore seen sporting Custo T-shirts. Now they have taken over the world.”—Frommer's Review
“Probably our work (our job) is more inspired by art than other designers because colour is very important in our job. So some of our influence comes from painters, like Matisse for example for the use of colours. It's difficult to know what inspires and what not, but architecture is a big thing in Barcelona (Custo's home town) so maybe a little bit of Gaudi. Gaudi mixed many materials for a project and we mix a lot of materials.”—Custo Dalmau Pop Sugar
“Barcelona: A city known for its hot weather, hotter citizens and raging all-night nightlife. Custo Barcelona: A brand known for hot styling, hotter customers and clothing perfect for raging, all-night nightlife.”—Andrew Sessa New York Magazine
