Erin Fetherston
The Label
Though Erin Fetherston started her own line of handmade frocks in 2004, it wasn’t until a year later that she realized real, everyday clothes were more interesting—and lucrative. Still, her ready-to-wear is full of the flirty, ruffled, delicate fare that global "It" girls can’t get enough of. And the designer’s network of connections has helped boost the label’s profile. Best friend and Paris mentor Ellen von Unwerth shot a whimsical mini-film featuring lovely young things, including another Fetherston pal Kirsten Dunst, which played on a loop during the designer’s fall 2006 presentation. Images from the short would eventually morph into the line’s look book.
The Look
Girlish frocks for Hollywood sprites and anyone aspiring to become one.
The Designer
Hers is a fairy tale come true of an American in Paris. With her bachelor degree from UC Berkeley in hand, the San Francisco native took off for France where she further honed her skills at the Parsons School of Design satellite there. In 2004, Fetherston decided to launch her own collection with the help of her boyfriend’s mother who had logged in time in the ateliers of Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin.
