Colombian-born Cortazar debuted his eponymous line in 2002 at the tender age of 18, after dabbling in design throughout his Miami-based childhood. The late Kal Ruttenstein was immediately impressed and displayed Cortazar’s work in Bloomingdale's legendary windows. The ultrafeminine line was known for vivid colors, vibrant prints, drapey flow, and a subtle Latin sensibility. Cortazar was tapped in 2007 to take over design duties at the troubled House of Ungaro and has put his own line on hold as a result. It remains to be seen whether he’ll resuscitate it.
