L.A. cult denim brand Habitual was founded by husband-and-wife team Michael and Nicole Colovos, now the head designers for Helmut Lang. Michael, a freelance designer, and Nicole, a former market editor for Harper’s Bazaar, launched the label in 2001. Fans flocked for the flattering fit and design details like the Maltese cross on the back pockets. Every piece of Habitual denim is hand-finished, with months spent perfecting the right wash. Each season, a new mantra is sewn into the waistbands and jacket and pocket linings. In the fall of 2005, the duo expanded the label into leather and accessories, and they resigned in 2006 to head up Helmut Lang.
“Habitual has definitely taken over from Juicy Couture. They are the hottest jeans at the moment.”—Lina Basma, Buyer The Evening Standard
“Habitual jeans' subtle washes and tailored details such as welt pockets and bound buttonholes have become the overnight favorites of models like Gisele Bundchen and Carolyn Murphy. The jeans are so hot that Barney's and Fred Segal can't keep them on the shelf, and they are rumored to have Levi's creative team in a tizzy.”—Kate Betts TIME Magazine
