Jenni Kayne launched her eponymous label in 2003 at the tender age of 19. Financially backed by her father and socially backed by young Hollywood peers such as Rachel Bilson and the Olsen twins, her refined yet edgy sportswear quickly built a favorable reputation. In 2006 she moved her runway show from L.A. to New York and in 2007 opened her first retail boutique in West Hollywood.
“I like clothes that you can throw down on the floor and still be able to wear.”—Jenni Kayne Harpers Bazaar
“Sexy to me is not showing a lot of skin. Or maybe an arm is sexy instead of cleavage.”—Jenni Kayne The Los Angeles Times
“It was a fine way to travel to see up-and-coming L.A.-based designer Jenni Kayne in a Lower West Side loft. Framed by floor-to-ceiling views of the Hudson, her collection was full of the simple summertime separates one might pack for a last-minute adventure. The tightly edited show -- which included an inky blue silk dress with latticework at the neck, a blanket-stripe shawl thrown on top; an easy navy cashmere shell paired with a lace-edged white linen skirt; and a fitted jacket in nubby linen buttoned over a crisp khaki skirt -- was spot-on for the mood of cleaned-up sophistication that is emerging for spring.”—Booth Moore The Los Angeles Times
