Daily Fashion & Runway News
Bridal designer Amsale Aberra bought the Kenneth Pool line in 2005 as an addition to her understated Amsale and Christos lines. After serving as a guest judge on the first season of Project Runway, she tapped contestant and F.I.T. grad Austin Scarlett to take over as head designer for the Pool line in 2006. In stark contrast to Amsale’s simple, modern gowns, Scarlett’s designs are known for their voluminous silhouettes and opulent embellishments, draped with yards upon yards of European fabric and crinoline hand-beaded in India. The dresses are each named after old-Hollywood actresses (Rita, Grace, Ginger) or Greek goddesses (Athena, Gaia), and run from $3,500 to $20,000.
