London-based, Austrian-Greek designer Marios Schwab launched his label in 2005, focusing on bandage-tight dresses with scientifically precise cuts and geometric shapes. By 2006, he was awarded best “New Generation Designer” at the British Fashion Awards. He uses jacquards, velvets, and other rich materials, mixing fabrics to emphasize the female form. His bold, highly structured creations are sometimes inspired by gothic and pornographic images and often have a hard, sexual edge. In recent years, Schwab has expanded his collection to include more mainstream pieces like printed tees, swimsuits, and cover-ups.
“You have to look carefully to find London's twenty-first century talents. Like Marios Schwab, they're emerging slowly and deliberately from behind the scenes, learning from (or perhaps rebelling against) the mistakes made by their loudmouth nineties forebears. Schwab, though, has just as strong a vision—curvaceously body-seamed cuts, gorgeous fabrics, and meticulously beautiful finishes—as anyone who rocked London with their theatrical antics a decade ago.”—Sarah Mower Style.com
“My Austrian heritage perhaps has to do with me being focused. I'm a control freak … I'm always determined to finish an idea and I do have a particular passion for craftsmanship. My Greek side, on the other hand, has to do with an aesthetic of women, the way I see fashion, my environment, the white and black. The colors. The textures. ”—Marios Schwab Kathimerini
