With Jessica Alba, Courtney Love, and Emmy Rossum.
Narciso Rodriguez learned his trade at Cerruti, Donna, and Calvin, and then launched his own line in 1997. In 2005, he became the first American to win the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award two years in a row. His sleek, ultramodern collections combine clean colors and strict lines with luxurious fabrics. His notion of femininity abandons frills and excess in favor of strappy, streamlined ease. Embraced by red-carpet staples and dress-to-impress socialites, the line excels at slinky eveningwear as well as daywear with a slightly mod vibe. In 2008, Rodriguez parted ways with backer Liz Claiborne and went the independent route.
“I think a woman in a sexy black dress is amazing or the way black can outline or come together with white to create a very graphic figure is interesting. To see how it shapes a woman's body. To my eye it always looks very cool.”—Narciso Rodriguez Daily Variety
“I dress a specific woman.…She's tailored, she's cool, she's relaxed. She never wears neon colors….The idea of dressing really well again, traditional things, rich things, thing that are cut on the body—that's what I love. I don't want seven colors of lizard shoe. I like to be smarter than that.”—Narciso Rodriguez Harper's Bazaar
“Fashion is moving in so many different directions now, I want clean, pure, sexy, and solid again.”—Narcisco Rodriguez Style.com
