Pringle has a longstanding place among high society's highly fashionable. Founded in 1815 by Robert Pringle, the brand coined the term "knitwear," invented the argyle pattern, and transformed the two-piece cardigan into the "twinset." Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, and Margot Fonteyn were among the icons who championed the brand in the forties. With Clare Waight Keller taking over as creative director in 2005, Pringle of Scotland has reinvented itself while honoring its roots in knitwear. Keller creates contemporary, elegant sportswear still synonymous with classic British style. In March 2011, Alistair Carr replaced Clare Waight Keller as the new design director.
“While it was important for us not to walk away from the characteristic classic beauty of the brand, I wanted it to feel modern and contemporary - to create that juxtaposition between something very luxurious and something much more edgy and modern.”—Clare Waight Keller Living.Scotsman.com
“It is important now that people dress with personality. There is room for individual statement - it's not so much about looking 'of the moment' for its own sake.”—Clare Waight Keller The London Independent
