Thai-born, Omaha-raised Thakoon Panichgul unveiled his debut womenswear line—a whimsical ten-piece presentation of metallic taffeta skirts, beige separates, and ribbon-tie jackets—in 2004 at the age of 29. With a nod to his Asian heritage and a talent for intricate detail, Panichgul has a knack for the ethereal—billowy organza and silk-linen dresses—and a recognizable wit. Just ask his high-powered fan base.
“For me it’s about creating silhouettes that sort of have built-in gesture.”—Thakoon Panichgul The New York Times
“What I love about Thakoon is that he’s always made wearable clothes.”—Ikram Goldram, Owner of Ikram boutique The Los Angeles Times
“My ideas come from art, culture, photography. Also, they come from my observations of the way people live.”—Thakoon Panichgul The Bangkok Post
“Thakoon makes sportswear with hyper-pretty, atelier-inspired flourishes and finishes. His proportions are those of his generation: small, body-conscious and deliberately quirky, sort of 'Hey Mum, I shrunk the couture.' His is a fabulous new resource for retailers. And that is the mark of real success when a label is launched.”—Stephanie Solomon, Bloomingdale's fashion director “Toast of New York” The Australian
“The Thakoon girl is sexy, but that is not a vocabulary that she cares about so much. It's about an inner confidence that makes her sexy.”—Thakoon Panichgul The Australian
