Veronique Branquinho

Label Overview

Launching her eponymous label in the fall of 1997, Veronique Branquinho began expertly tailoring her designs in a Chanel-like homage to the female form to almost immediate critical success. The look continues to be characterized by a sense of modesty and decorum: long skirts, military buttons, and a dark palette even make their way into spring collections, yet the vibe is more edgy-professional than uptight austere. The chicness and clean lines of a Branquinho jacket or boot inspire a whole crop of devoted urban-dwelling women, and her work has been the subject of several retrospectives on contemporary Flemish fashion design. An eyewear line and a flagship boutique in Antwerp round out the label's brand portfolio.

What's Been Said

  • It is difficult sometimes, this focus on me, that lack of separation between what I do and who I am. You do start thinking about sitting behind a till in a supermarket all day. As a person I am quite quiet and alone, and dealing with lots of people and having a company ... it's interesting, but pushy. Then again I never wanted, and still don't want, a common life. I don't want to live in the mainstream; people look happy but I don't want to live like that. Looking at magazines and fashion was the other world for me, but now I have that in real life
