From friendly ghosts to flesh-eating creatures, these haunted houses offer a full spectrum of scares.


Blood Manor

The Heart Chamber spews 37 gallons of blood per night, but to get there, you'll have to pass through the Slithering Snake Pit and the Horridor.
Dates: Oct. 5–28, Thurs.–Sun.; Oct. 29–31, Mon.–Wed., 7.30 p.m.–1 a.m.
Price: $20–$30; $40–$45 "RIP" tickets bypass the line altogether.

Nightmare

Little old zombie ladies and flesh-eating monsters? Creative director Timothy Haskell has re-created some creepy ghost stories in more than twenty eerie rooms.
Dates: Sept. 28–Nov. 3, every day except Oct 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, and 22; 6 p.m.–10 p.m.
Price: $25 for entry to haunted house; $30 for entry to haunted house and maze; $50 for no-wait tickets.

Trapped in Purgatory

In this ode to Dante's nine circles of hell, tortured souls share the despair of limbo with vampires and cockroaches.
Dates: Oct. 5–31, Fri.–Sat. 7.30–11 p.m.; Sun. 6 p.m.–10 p.m.
Price: $5 for kids under 12; $7 for adults during the day, $10 at night.

The Halloween Haunted House

This kid-friendly haunted house dating back to 1772 has the attendant coterie of ghoulish characters minus the fangs.
