The Flatiron Room
37 West 26th St., nr. Sixth Ave.; 212-725-3860.
A self-proclaimed home for “whiskey enthusiasts,” this bar-cum-whiskey school features an extensive list of the brown spirit (plus a team of guides to help you navigate it) and a menu from Susan Burdian of Spice Market and DiWine Restaurant. Enjoy the fireplace or any of the other swanky touches—hand-painted ceilings, vintage Italian wallpaper, and black walnut tables.

Kingston Hall
149 Second Ave., 2nd fl., nr. E. 9th St.; 212-673-2663.
Opened in late June, Kingston Hall is a throwback to sixties-era Jamaica, right after the country gained its independence. The bar, styled like a “Jamaican mansion that’s been taken over by sixties hipsters,” has two fireplaces, an antique leather-pocketed pool table, and private party tables in the rear, guarded by two marble lions.

Brinkley’s Station
153 East 60th St., nr. Lexington Ave.; 646-922-7220.
The midtown offshoot of the downtown favorite, Brinkley’s Station opened in September in the 1890s bank building that previously housed Desmond’s. The gastropub, by brothers Tom and Anthony Martignetti, features a large bar and dining room (the menu includes lots of shareable plates, burgers, and cheeses from Saxelby Cheesemongers), but head upstairs to the smaller mezzanine area, where you’ll find the fireplace. The drink menu includes ten house cocktails, as well as several New York State wines and locally brewed beers.

Brooklyn Tap House
590 Myrtle Ave., nr. Taaffe Pl., Bed-Stuy; 917-202-1801.
This Bed-Stuy beer bar’s motto is simple: “no crap on tap.” And it certainly delivers: The impressively long line of taps grouped by category (like Seasonal, Imports, and Wild Cards) gives patrons over 40 draft beers to choose from, as well as more than 160 available bottles. Food includes classic bar fare like nachos, chicken tenders, and wings, so fill up and head outside: There’s a firepit in the beer garden.

The Bar at the NoMad Hotel
1170 Broadway, New York, NY at 28th St.; 212-796-1500.
Mixologist Leo Robitschek, also of Eleven Madison Park, expertly crafts drinks behind a grand 24-foot mahogany bar. While the bar is separate from the dining-only fireplace room, we wouldn’t blame you for swinging by while waiting for the bartender to finish up your cocktail.
