From stories and songs to beers and burlesque, here are events for all ages to celebrate the Festival of Lights.


Make menorahs with the kids, celebrate Hanukkah on ice, or catch Matisyahu in concert.  

For the Whole Family

Glow-in-the-Dark Chanukah Dinner
92Y, Warburg Lounge, Lexington Ave. at 92nd St.; 212-415-5500
Celebrate the Festival of Lights by eating in the dark at this innovative dinner. Come prepared with a flashlight and join in the glow-stick-lit festivities, complete with live music and the customary latkes.

Hanukkah Playhouse and Book Fair

This musical performance brings Hanukkah stories to life with theater that begs for audience participation. Kids can croon along to the festive songs after perusing holiday books from Upper West Side bookshop Book Culture.

Latkepalooza!

Prepare your family’s holiday palates by munching on fresh latkes and enjoying music, theatrical performances, and interactive activities for all ages.

Hanukkah Family Day
The Jewish Museum, Scheuer Auditorium, 1109 Fifth Ave. at 92nd St.; 212-423-3200
Kids can cut, glue, and mold their own sculptural Hanukkah lamp for a personal touch on your holiday table. Creating menorahs out of found objects is a Jewish Museum tradition that promises creativity and hands-on fun. Artist Jeff Hopkins will also be doing a live drawing performance, illustrating stories of the season.

Chanukah Festival
92Y, Lexington Ave. at 92nd St.; 212-415-5500
This event is packed to the brim with crafts, treats, activities, and shows — all conducted in both Hebrew and English. From the Wondergy Cool Science Show to a performance by Israeli folk dancers, you will be hard-pressed to find a lull amidst the menorah building, edible dreidels, and holiday-card crafting.

Chanukah on Ice

Expect a picturesque night of ice-skating in Central Park, with kosher fare and live music to enjoy under the glow of an icy menorah. In keeping with the event’s supersized theme, a giant spinning dreidel will also be on view.
Date: December 27, 4 p.m.-7 p.m.

Lighting of the World’s Largest Hanukkah Menorah
Grand Army Plaza, Eastern Pkwy. at Flatbush Ave.; 646-298-9909
Supersize your celebration at the lighting of a 32-foot-tall menorah in the heart of Brooklyn. There will be a lighting ceremony on all eight nights, complete with live music, latkes, and gifts for the kids.

Beer + Latkes

This annual event is known for serving up latkes with unexpected garnishes and dressings that give a new twist to the traditional Hanukkah fare. And, of course, there will be plenty of local beers to wash it all down with.

The Last Schmaltz With the Jewbadours

Get in the holiday spirit at this all-Jewish cover band's annual bash. It promises to be a rollicking night full of sing-along-friendly radio hits from the '70s and early '80s.

Festival of Light: An Evening With Matisyahu

Matisyahu, the Grammy-nominated Jewish reggae-rapper, will be playing tracks from his newest album Akeda, along with more traditional songs to celebrate the season.

Menorah Horah!

This burlesque performance embraces the friskier side of Hanukkah with a vaudeville-style show from the Schlep Sisters and a slew of special guests. Book the babysitter for a night of laughs and libations.

Matzoball 2016

This perennially popular Jewish-singles event promises a party that continues into the wee hours of the morning. See if you can find a sweetheart to bring home for dinner.

Hanukkah Ugly Sweater Party: Let’s Get Lit!

This Brooklyn shindig puts a new (dreidel) spin on the ugly-sweater-party tradition. Head to Crown Heights to don your ugliest duds and chow down on Chinese food.
