A glorious feature of many Asian cities is the cities contained within them. And this one—composed of eight mixed-use buildings linked by sky bridges—seeks to counterbalance the trend toward more insular urban development in China. “The aim of Linked Hybrid,” says Steven Holl, “is to shape a great urban space for living, working, recreation, and culture in one place.” Not only is there a Montessori school and a cinema amid the 644 apartments, but the sky loop boasts a swimming pool.
